My 1st BLOG post..Thanks goes out to my Best friend Chelton Wynter for your motivation. Essentially, you are the main force behind me finally getting this blog started.#leggo
Now let me simply start off by saying this summer in entertainment was completely MEDIOCRE sorry, T.I. “I dont’ want no mediocre”, but from the tired cliche sequels(THINK LIKE A MAN 2), (The Amazing Spiderman 2)to the bad,bad to the bone (A Million Ways 2 Die In The West),(Tammy) Musically, things were pretty bad to the Iggy Azalea track “FANCY” that I initially thought was a new Gwen Stefani song.Totally unoriginal and a blatant copy-cat on the chorus. I haven’t even got started on you Nicki Minaj i’ll say that for later but in the meantime lets take a deeper look at this summer 2014 the Good, Mediocre, and the BAD.
Some GOOD
Jeezy seems to always get it right! and you wonder why? Because he stays true to who he is and what he represents. He reps the streets and thats why we love this summer banger “Seen it All:Best Verse Jeezy has had in years! Jay-Z even sounds like the OLD Jay-z on this.Real recognize real. Grade: B+=84It was everything you loved about X Men 2 brought back to you in rare form for 2014. Truly good film making.Wolverine , played by Hugh Jackman, was exceptional.Check it out if you haven’t already out on Blu-ray October 14th. B+=85Now here we go! Disney’s best since Toy Story 3. Angelina Jolie is mesmerizing truly was born for this role.My favorite from Summer 2014! B+=87Epic Sequel to the incredible, How To Train Your Dragon. The first movie was great uh borderline classic animated film. So, I was hopeful the sequel would be bigger and better and it surely exceeded my very high expectations . All the characters are back with some great characterization done both physically and mentally. Darker than expected but I love a good surprise! It all works! One of best sequels is here! Check it out. Grade: A=90“We’re blended” Terry Crews was hilarious in this even if he was playing the same character.Adam Sandler who has had some flops with his last efforts comes back in top form in this gem of the summer. Now ,when I saw the trailers for this i wasn’t to interested because it looked so confusing as to what the plot was about.Me and the bros gave it a fair shot because they wanted to see a comedy and boy did we laugh and laugh!! Much better than Grown Up2, Jack & Jill and That’s My Boy. Drew Barrymore is always so sweet, and girl next door and that really helped carry this film. Out on Blu-ray now check it out! Grade: B=80Pitbull feat. Jennifer Lopez & Claudia Leitte is a fun uplifting summer smash written for the World Cup this summer! I love the brazilian influence. JLo gives the best vocal and verse on the track.Check it out! Good song. Grade:83= BWiz Khalifa, was welcomed back to high accolade with this summer street anthem, We Dem Boyz!! ! It’s undeniably catchy, knocking production, decent lyrics.OK it passes as a Good track! Grade:B=82Powerful.Inspiration.Hope=Coldplay. Truly an amazing song the best Rock/Pop of the summer lies right here with such moving lyrics which moves along to the stunning hook. New sound works great on Coldplay. Grade: B+= 88Meek Mills, I Don’t Know ,is his hardest most menacing single to date. This smash builds into something amazing ; paced out so brilliantly.By the end of the song you will be all the way #turnt!! Great ! Meek Mills Grade: B+= 87JLO takes the title for Best Summer Smash of 2014 with her 2nd single from her 10th album, AKA, bOOTy a collaboration with Pitbull on the album version and a remix featuring summer’s breakout star , Iggy Azalea. Fellas love it because they love big booty and women love because they love to shake it to this monster smash! Co-written by Chris Brown Grade: B+= 88
No Mediocre
T.I. spoke loud and clear on his first single from his upcoming ninth album Paperwork:The Motion Picture due for release this fall , No Mediocre that he,”dont want no mediocre, bad girls only”, but yet we are served with Mediocre in its rarest forms..Verses are some of his weakest yet. T.I. was one of my favorites rappers for a minute especially with classic album like, Paper Trail its a hard thing to follow and he has chasing that since 2008.Iggy verse was good. She has much potential. The beat is really top notch from DJ Mustard Grade: C= 72Iggy Azalea ,blew up fast with this POP hit, Fancy. Although, I turned the radio due to oversaturation and from the copycat Gwen Stefani sound alike. The song is not bad it just falls under mediocre for me. Trust me far worse singles were released this summer .Preferably, she should steer away from POP material if T.I. wants her career to be taken seriously in the Hip-Hop community. I see big things happening in her career.Grade:C=71I love an all black african cast!!! Especially when you have Taraji P.Henson in the midst count me in. Although, I was not the biggest fan of the 1st film at all the first installment was much better than this Kevin Hart Vegas cliche mess of a movie. If some of the unnecessary and useless Kevin Hart scenes were cut their could have been more room to explore the characters. Jennifer Lewis simply stole every scene she was in. Thinking about it Jennifer Lewis and Dennis Haysbert have the most memorable and entertaining scenes in the movie. LaLa Anthony was unnecessary making the her character annoying.. She was just kind of thrown into the main cast which I feel was not needed at all. It was fun when the girls were the main attraction but the scenes with the guys didn’t have such variety it was more centered on one person Cedric(Kevin Hart) that’s it. Better luck with the prequel. Grade: C = 70Many fans of the last summers, The Purge were looking for The Purge :Anarchy to be focus more on the actual Purge. The 1st film was a let down as it focused more on one family than the actual Purge. The sequel did give the fans what they wanted by giving more Purge but it was not a thrill ride. It was a very slow build up to an already average 90minute run time. The director, James DeMonaco captured some great shots of Los Angeles.I’ll give him that accolade .The rest of the film was just ok but was never a horrible film just Mediocre that didn’t use the opportunity to flesh out the concept more substantially. Grade= 70 CAriana Grande , who is still copying Mariah Carey returned this summer with another generic collaborative effort this time with Iggy Azalea. It’s another young lady taking off her clothes and barely pronouncing her words correctly.Listen closely, very hard to understand what all she is saying during the verses then you add a rapper to the midst .Problem is a big convoluted mess. The production has too much going on I hear horns then I think I hear the Ying Yang Twins.Start singing and stop throwing rappers on every single. Grade:D=65Tate Taylor, director of The Help(which I have yet to view) brings us , Get On Up a biopic about James Brown, controversial rise to fame life played by,Chadwick Boseman who is OK.Plot holes throughout very scattered and all over the place.Especially at the beginning to many flashback not enough plot. Coherent plot is the real issue that causes the film to lack for me, sadly.Good concert scenes ,all help this from being a bad film. Grade:C=70
Very Bad
Melissa McCarthy should have never made, Tammy.Bad excuse for another cliche road trip movie. It seems just like another Identity Thief same ole dance and song.Badly written dialogue. Not one laugh good laugh totally insulting so-called comedy that spins into a drama mid way through the film. It’s a no go! Grade: 40 FThe trailers really didn’t look funny to me. Seth Rogen in a movie about a fraternity, not interested. Last summer, I witnessed the very bad to the bone, This Is The End that should have a note to myself. This movie just was totally raunchy for no damn just to cash in on the teenagers .The whole premise was really corny. The characters totally unlikeable.<Parents trying to be hip and cool totally annoying and main point: They never were cool. The movie was just an unfunny bore.Zac Efron was definitely not the guy for the role he lacked conviction James Franco or Shia Labeouf would been my only options. Grade: D=60Lord Jesus!! Help us now!!! Now I have heard some DOGDooty before but my GOD this is an insult to every Female rapper: MC Lyte,Queen Latifah,Missy Elliot,EVE,GANGSTA BOO,FOXY,Salt N Pepa,LIL KIM, Remy MA, Lisa Lee, these women actually gave you lyrics, catchy memorable songs, something representing HIP-HOP that you can still spin now..those women represented Female Hip-Hop very well but to release this and for anyone to call it rap or hip-hop totally shows the insult to injury.Just stop it! this is an embarrassment to every hard working Female rapper out there who can actually spit something nasty on the mic. This is not even remotely music.Remember what Hip-Hop represents and stop helping someone who has no respect for the ones before her and definitely no respect for the ones to come.Look at what you are presenting as your artistry. You’re supposed to uphold that culture and the relevance of what it’s supposed to mean and that means that you are a queen. You go out there and you represent your culture of hip-hop. You represent rap within a culture, but you’re respecting yourself and you’re showing your skills. NICKI MINAJ doesn’t represent nothing about HIP-HOP culture You should say commercialism or white-washing of rap music. That’s not representing hip-hop culture Grade: 50 EFirst thing, Oscar winner Charlize Theorn knows better than to be in some fluff like this called, A Million Ways To Die In The West ,is possibly the summers worst film. Bad joke after bad joke kinda like watching Family Guy but no jokes work in this dud.Save your time and pass on this even when their is nothing else to watch.I have warned you! Hopefully, TED2 wont be such a bomb! Grade:40 FThe Amazing SpiderMan 2, is really a disjointed mess of a wannabe blockbuster that crashed at the box office to many villains and not enough focus on the many new characters. Andre Garfield as Spider Man is just not convincing as say ,Tobey Maguire so his efforts will always pale in comparison.Emma Stone is great Gwen Stacy and for me is the saving grace. Jamie Foxx acting game was at an all time low as Electro terribly unconvincing. Grade: D 60
